Welcome to Central Christian Church of Austin, an Urban Sanctuary

All are welcomed and loved, and all means ALL!
Whoever you are and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome and loved and safe here with us. We are so pleased that you have found us! Relax. Take a deep breath. You are loved. Open yourself to God’s love. We would love for you to share your beliefs and your disbeliefs with us; and hope you will let us share ours with you.
We take the Bible seriously, not literally. We look to scripture for guidance and inspiration and read the Bible as more than merely “literal” facts and rules. We see the Bible as not so much a book as it is a library of books with many different authors expressing many different perspectives on the nature of God and what the human response to God should be.

A Place For You

An Urban Sanctuary, we commit ourselves to being

a safe space in a hurried and worried world.

Reverend Doctor Layne Beamer

Senior Pastor

Layne was born in Ohio, and has lived in Chicago and Southern California before recently moving here to Austin to join the Central Christian community. He received both his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from The Claremont School of Theology, in Claremont California. An ordained Disciples of Christ minister, Layne has served as a congregational pastor since 2007. He enjoys the give-and-take of congregational ministry, finding that congregants minister to him and provide spiritual stimulation and growth opportunities for him as much as he might provide the same for them. He is married to Michyl-Shannon Quilty, and has one adult son, Shayne. Layne believes that Jesus and God are busy out in the streets and in other settings beyond our church walls.

“We share Jesus’ prayer

that we might all be one.”

We challenge one another to grow together in love, not to conform. When we gather, it is with the intention that we might all become aware of God’s Spirit in our midst and strengthen one another in our commitment to being the loving people that God would have us be.
