REACHING OUTWARD

A monthly publication of the Central Christian Church Outreach Committee

May, 2007

Outreach Committee Goal

To promote and educate our congregation
on the outreach programs so that
each member of CCC will be motivated

to directly participate in one or more of our ministries during the year.

WHAT'S GOING ON?

Special Disciples Offering coming up on Pentecost Sunday, May 27.
This offering goes to help new church starts. One of these new starts that will benefit from these gifts is a church that will be in the Oak Hill area. They will meet on Sunday evenings. Elliot Richmond, who is part of the License Mentor Group that meets at CCC every month, will lead this new fellowship. If you would like to participate as a “seed family”, please contact Lee Williams and she will put you in touch with Elliot. A seed family is a family who already belongs to a disciples' church, but who agrees to attend the new fellowship until the new church can build up their membership. Since the new fellowship will meet on Sunday evenings, the seed family can still participate fully in their home church.

Children's Clothes Closet:
Jan McLendon and the Chi Rho group have started to collect clothing (0-3 months to 10 years). The closet area in the Parlor has been cleared and cleaned and is ready to for the clothes. Remember, that excess clothing will be stored off site. Once we have stocked our shelves, we will contact the school district and get back on the list that schools use to call and locate clothes for needy families. We appreciate Chi Rho's dedication to this project.

BBA Assembly in Kerrville Items:

* Work Shop on Kids Hope USA: An inspirational workshop on this awe inspiring ministry to elementary school age children was presented in one of the work shops. Their theme is “One child, one hour, one church, one school”. Kids Hope USA partners with Buckner Children and Family Services to mentor kids and make miraculous changes happen for these children and their families. A presentation is available for more information on this worthwhile program.

* Ministries Center at Koenig Lane CC: Rev. Frank Goldsmith at Koenig Lane Christian Church is in the planning stages of developing a Ministries Center based on the model of our BBA Disciples Center in San Antonio. Lee and Nikki Williams will be participating in this project. If you are interested, please contact Lee.

Micah Items:

*The April Shower benefiting Micah 6 Food Pantry on Sunday, April 22 was a great success. We collected enough canned food for two car trunks, bought $40 worth of T-shirts and a cash gift to Micah 6. The folks at the pantry were truly grateful for your gifts of love and dedication to this ministry.

*Micah 6 Board meeting on May 7. Minutes will be available for review. One item coming up: The Services Network Committee will be organizing a retreat so that the member churches can come up with ideas on how to better serve our neighbors with our various individual church ministries.

*Food Pantry - Every Thursday & Saturday. To volunteer, contact Gail Acree at 462-1614. Volunteer and Information forms are available in the CCC Volunteers' Office and at www.micah6austin.org. If you are interested in a guided tour you can join Lee Williams on a fourth Thursday at 2pm at University Baptist Church (back door – 22nd and Guadalupe).

Lunch Kits were assembled by the CWF ladies at their meeting on Wednesday, May 9th. Thank you, ladies, for your participation in this ministry. They brought supplies and assembled 32 complete lunch kits and 8 partial kits.

On Monday, July 9, 9-1pm at Caritas Soup Kitchen we are responsible for having 10 folk to help in the kitchen. Please consider volunteering! Contact Betty Alexander at 345-2693.
